The Mendocino County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation in conjunction with The California Coastal Commission, NOAA and California State Parks will be hosting four beach clean up days in 2013, one in each quarter of 2013. The purpose of the cleanups is to determine if any debris from the March 2011 earthquake / tsunami in Japan has started to reach our shores. This effort will be taking place along the entire California Coast in 2013.
The Beach, Dates and Times for the Mendocino Coast are:
Saturday March 30, 2013 Ward Ave to Ten Mile Beach 9:00AM – 12:00PM
Saturday May 18, 2013 Ward Ave to Ten Mile Beach 9:00AM – 12:00PM
Saturday September 21, 2013 Ward Ave to Ten Mile Beach 9:00AM – 12:00PM
Saturday November 16, 2013 Ward Ave to Ten Mile Beach 9:00AM – 12:00PM
Volunteers are needed and there will be cool prizes for participants!
For those not familiar with Ward Ave / Ten Mile Beach it is the most isolated beach close to a large population base ( Fort Bragg) because it is inhabited by endangered species it has special restrictions. There are no Dogs allowed on the beach even with a leash. (Your cooperation is greatly appreciated)
