Prevent statewide preemption of local plastic pollution reduction laws in NC

Failed to prevent statewide preemption of local governments from exacting laws to curb generation of single-use plastic waste and litter.

As a last-minute addition to the state budget bill, some members of the North Carolina legislature's conference committee slipped in language to take away local governments' ability to pass plastic pollution prevention laws such as plastic bag bans, bag fees and other measures meant to prevent single-use plastic waste at the source.
