Surfrider Foundation Mendocino Chapter Meeting

Present: Nicole, Glad, John, Marvel, Shan, Maxine
July meeting cancelled.
Glad will facilitate a Youth Club meeting on August 3 to gauge interest in a youth club. Nicole will contact Parks Dept for permission to use Caspar Beach.
Blue Water Task Force: Nicole will email volunteers regarding the calendar and scheduling.
Our chapter has been invited to participate in the first N. Coast Ocean Life Symposium. This event was inspired by the Navy Testing Expansion, and hopes to include marine scientists, activists, and others.
Shan brought up Blues Beach and it’s need for attention. There is a lot of garbage from campers and others. We are going to look into who takes the garbage, and if we can support a regular pick up or clean up.
Surfrider Foundation National Summit is coming up. We think our funds will be better spent elsewhere. Nicole will ask other board members if they want to go, but we don’t feel compelled to make the trip.
Gear Clinic/ Swap Meet idea. We discussed have a gear clinic and swap meet as our next meeting at Big River. Glad and Nicole are looking for ideas.
Nicole has been invited to give a talk on plastic pollution at the Noyo Center on August 27.
